The Hackney project was formally an enamelling
works industrial unit which was later
converted to a private residential dwelling by
the current owners.

The new construction consists of three, one
bedroom flats, new window openings were
designed to mirror the existing configuration
so appearing as a two storey building from
the street.

The building envelope was constructed using
a steel frame, timber flat roof, water proofed
and insulated with a single ply SIKA
membrane, external walls were dense
concrete blocks built between steel frame
columns, insulted and rendered using a
specialist render system..

The most challenging aspect of this project
was to access the works to both the south
and west elevations as both were obstructed
by party walls with fragile flat roofs beneath,
the scaffolding had to be designed using
internal towers that could support canter
levered ladder beams which supported the
upper scaffold lifts.
